Build Now TALKS

Build Now hosts educational events at our model home at 5713 Elysian Fields Avenue. We invite guest speakers to provide information about topics that are on the minds of New Orleans residents. Build Now TALKS events are free and open to the public, but due to space considerations we request that you pre-register for the events you wish to attend. Spending too much money on your energy bills? Curious about how to reduce your impact on the environment? Come hear tips from experts from the Rebuilding Information Station, a collaboration of UNO-CHART, LSU’s Ag Center, Tulane City Center, & the Road Home.

How to Improve Your Credit & Qualify for a Loan:
Do you need financing in order to build or buy a new home, or to renovate your existing home? Are you unsure whether you’ll qualify for a loan? Come learn about what to do before applying to increase your chances of loan approval. Build Now TALKS hosts an info session on basic financial health, tips and tricks on how to improve your credit, and what lenders are looking for in a credit file.

Are you thinking about building a new, elevated house, or about elevating your existing home? There are many sources of elevation funding – including the ICC program, the HMGP program, and Road Home elevation financing, to name a few – that you may qualify for. You may be eligible for additional funding even if you have already completed the elevation of your home! We will also be discussing how high you will need to elevate, insurance considerations, and other related topics.

HMGP Information Session:
Funding for elevation and reconstruction
Thursday, June 18, 6 PM, at Dillard University

Are you looking for some additional funding to elevate your existing home or build a new, elevated home on your property? The Office of Community Development Disaster Recovery Unit HMGP program provides a reimbursement of up to $100,000 to eligible Road Home recipients. Come meet with representatives from the Louisiana Office of Community Development to learn about how the program can benefit you and your family.

Dillard University Gymnasium
Join Build Now and more than 50 other exhibitors for Dillard University’s free Housing Fair. Sponsored by the Dillard University Community Development Corporation, the fair will exhibitors from various sectors of the housing world, with information on topics such as green building, obtaining construction financing, obtaining a soft second mortgage program through the Pathway to Homeownership program, and more.

We will also be discussing how high you will need to elevate, how to choose a reputable elevation contractor, insurance considerations, and other related topics.

More than 50 exhibitors were on hand at the Dillard University campus for the free Housing Fair. Sponsored by the Dillard University Community Development Corporation, the fair featured exhibitors from various sectors of the housing world, as well as seminars on obtaining construction financing, selecting contractors, and how to understand your credit report.

Wednesday, June 11, 2008 - The LRA Road Home Elevation Grants
Over 150 people came out to Dillard University to learn about the different sources of elevation funding that are available.
