Build Now TALKS

Build Now hosts educational events at our model home at 5713 Elysian Fields Avenue. We invite guest speakers to provide information about topics that are on the minds of New Orleans residents. Build Now TALKS events are free and open to the public, but due to space considerations we request that you pre-register for the events you wish to attend. Come learn about what to do before applying to increase your chances of loan approval. Build Now TALKS hosts an info session on basic financial health, tips and tricks on how to improve your credit, and what lenders are looking for in a credit file.

Saturday, November 14, 1-7PM  – Art House
Starting at 5713 Elysian Fields Avenue
Join Build Now as we invite local artists to transform our houses under construction into temporary art galleries. Current homeowners will also be opening up their homes to the public. Come to Build Now’s model home at 5713 Elysian Fields to pick up a map for our self-guided tour. The stops on the tour will be open from 1-5 PM, and there will be a reception at Build Now’s model home from 5-7 PM. Click here for more info.

Saturday, September 13, 1-5 PM - Habitat for Humanity Housing and Community Resource Fair
Habitat Musician’s Village, at the intersection of Roman and Alvar Streets
Build Now will be giving a presentation on “Putting the Pieces Together: The Build Now Approach to Financing for New Construction After Hurricane Katrina” at Habitat’s Housing and Community Resource Fair. There will be food and music, representatives from a variety of non-profit organizations, and the opportunity to tour one of Habitat’s recently constructed homes.

Dillard University Gymnasium
Join Build Now and more than 50 other exhibitors for Dillard University’s free Housing Fair. Sponsored by the Dillard University Community Development Corporation, the fair will exhibitors from various sectors of the housing world, with information on topics such as green building, obtaining construction financing, obtaining a soft second mortgage program through the Pathway to Homeownership program, and more.

HMGP Information Session:
Funding for elevation and reconstruction

Are you looking for some additional funding to elevate your existing home or build a new, elevated home on your property? The Office of Community Development Disaster Recovery Unit HMGP program provides a reimbursement of up to $100,000 to eligible Road Home recipients. Come meet with representatives from the Louisiana Office of Community Development to learn about how the program can benefit you and your family.

More than 50 exhibitors were on hand at the Dillard University campus for the free Housing Fair. Sponsored by the Dillard University Community Development Corporation, the fair featured exhibitors from various sectors of the housing world, as well as seminars on obtaining construction financing, selecting contractors, and how to understand your credit report.

Wednesday, June 11, 2008 - The LRA Road Home Elevation Grants
Over 150 people came out to Dillard University to learn about the different sources of elevation funding that are available.
