Donate now to help New Orleans families return home. Thousands of pre-Katrina homeowners remain displaced. They want to rebuild, but did not receive enough money from insurance and Road Home. Getting the gap financing they need is a complex and time-consuming process. It is hard to find a trustworthy contractor. And many families have concerns about moving back to a recovering neighborhood.
Countless city blocks remain practically devoid of residents. And the New Orleans economy suffers as a result. The city does not have enough taxpayers to support its budget. A smaller population means less federal and state funding.
But Build Now can help. We locate displaced families, help them obtain financing,
and construct a safe, energy-efficient, elevated new house for them. Clients
pay the cost of their home – starting at $100,000 – but we need
additional support to cover the costs of locating homeowners and providing
them with the case management they need to get back home.
Your contribution will have a direct impact:
$25 will sponsor a one-hour case management session with our housing counselor.
$100 will cover the cost to survey a block and locate unreconstructed properties
so we can contact the owners.
$250 will underwrite the engineering work that ensures each house is built
safe and strong.
$500 will cover the cost of holding a seminar to educate homeowners on the
rebuilding process.
$1,000 will cover the cost of a 1,000-piece mailing and follow-up phone calls
to potential clients.
$2,500 will provide a standard appliance package to a low-income family.
$5,000 will build an elevated piling foundation for a new house.
